Finland's largest and oldest reconstructed stone age village can be found at Saarijärvi. “Kivikauden Kylä” literally means “Stone Age Village” in Finnish.

This is the westernmost site of this specific Neolithic culture group and originally was inhabited 6,000 years ago. The outdoor exhibition consists of huts, traps and canoes which are allowed to be used by the visitors. There is also an extensive prehistoric path one can follow. The archaeological open air museum is part of the local Saarijärvi Museum.
