In Western Jylland, you will find the Ringkøbing-Skjern Museum. It is a culture historical museum, built up as an Ecomuseum with 14 departments divided around the Ringkøbing Fjord. It is a bit of culture and a bit of nature, which is not that strange when you know that the cultural environment is an accepted environment in ‘environment education’ in Denmark.

The oldest departments of the museum date to 1908 with the nature-school and historical workshops from 1995 (Dejbjerg Jernalder) and 2000 (Bork Vikingehavn). The building of both sites are funded by the Arbejdsmarkedets Feriefond. Dejbjerg Jernalder is mainly for school groups but occasionally has activities for tourists as well. It is linked to the famous local find at Dejbjerg.

The idea in the education is learning about nature, biodiversity, environment and sustainable living in the nature. The work in the historical workshops are with authentic tools in an authentic environment.

Both sites were constructed with archaeologists involved, actually these still can be called for advice as they are working for the ‘mother museum’ itself.
