Just south of Cardiff you will find Penarth. When in the 1970s the Cosmeston Lakes Country Park was created, traces of some medieval occupation were uncovered: a fortified manor house with settlement.

These date back to the 14th century when the Caversham family founded this village. It is thought that nobody survived the terrible plague epidemic that ravaged Wales from 1348.

From 1983 onward, part of the village was reconstructed on the original site, as part of the Cosmeston Lakes Country Park. It consists of round buildings with stone walls, gardens, an area with rare breeds and a small museum displaying the original finds. Until 2011, guiding was done by means of live interpretation, with guides dressed in medieval like costume. In Summertime, people would take residence in the village. At present, the village is empty.
