UNED Bizkaia and the Mining Museum of the Basque Country , is pleased to announce the first edition of a theoretical and practical course of experimental archaeology and archaeometallurgy of ancient and medieval iron, that was so important in these historical ages. The course will show the results of the latest research in this branch of archaeology in full effervescence throughout Europe today. The aim of this intensive course is to provide students with hands-on experience in transforming the iron ore in a metal the way they were done in European areas famous for its iron production such as the Basque Country. We will reconstruct and work the different phases of an old ironwork. This is a specialized occupation whose secret is lost, and now the experimental archaeology tries to recover it. This course will take place in Portugalete (Bizkaia, Spain) and in some archaeological site.

Tuition fees: 100 EUR
